Halloween Horror Fest

I've been watching something scary on Netflix.  Not your regular horror flick but a TLC show called Toddlers and Tiaras.  I have to admit it horrifies and grosses me out way more than any slasher film!  I spend a lot of time asking the moms WTF???  I know they can't hear me and I'm not actually sure why I torture myself with this show.  It's just so hard to believe that these are real people - I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it.  I turned it on for some mind candy while I was making a shawl - but it then it blew my mind and made me have a wide range of very negative emotions.

The kids are often brats - but it's not really their fault.  You have parents (can't just blame mom) who treat them like they are actual princesses and should be catered to.  If I drank I would create a drinking game where you take a shot every time someone says "personality" because it's always their personality that shines, not the 8 tons of makeup.  And also you would take a shot every time someone says the phrase "total package".  They all have the total package.  I'm pretty sure that anyone playing would be drunk long before the first episode ended.  At first I had a list - fake hair, flippers, fake tan or every time someone whined - but drinking every time that showed up on screen would lead to alcohol poisoning.

Another thing that bothers me is how so many of the moms are morbidly obese.  Not just a little obese, but way over the top.  As someone who has been to that level I can tell you - it is impossible to be happy and morbidly obese.  You don't feel beautiful.  I suspect many of these moms are trying to live through their daughters.  They claim the kids want to do it and it's a way to spend time together.  How about going for a walk?  Playing frisbee?  bowling?  the Wii??   So many options that are so much healthier.  My youngest daughter ( a girl who managed to be incredibly beautiful and confident without entering even one pageant) and i run 5ks as an activity.  She likes happy and healthy mom better than fat and sad mom.  I suspect the little pageant brats would like a happy and healthy mom better than a stage mom overly focused on their outer self too.

I won't even go into the sexualization of young girls and how harmful that is. I think that's pretty apparent.  Well not to the whack jobs that put their daughters into the stripper training known as "beauty pageants" but to everyone else, I'm sure it's obvious.

I think my next marathon will be one of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.  I need something to wash the ick out of my eyes and brain.
